While You Are Waiting…

In your personal Bible study, or small group, read Psalm 37. Take special note of verses 1 and 7. Sandwiched between these two calls to wait on the Lord is a whole lot of active faith. This reminds us that waiting on the Lord is active, not passive. So while we wait for the Lord to fulfill His purposes we need to continually cultivate 3 habits of life.
1. DWELL IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING (v. 3)
– Feed on His faithfulness by remembering His works (Deut 8; Ps 145:1-4)
– Feast on His Word (Ps 130, esp. v.5)
– Serve the Lord with gladness (Ps 100)
– Remain in unity with God’s people (Ps 133)
2. DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD (v. 4)
– Delight in the Word (Psalm 1:1-3; 40:8; 119:24-25, 33-35, 47-48, 143)
– Worship Him habitually
Includes private prayer time (Ps 5:3; Matt. 6:6)
Includes personal Bible study (2 Tim. 2:15; 3:16-17)
Includes cross-focused, life-transforming fellowship with God’s people (Heb. 10:24-25)
Includes receiving biblical instruction (Acts 2:42)
– Keep eternal matters your top priority (Mt 6:33; Col. 3:2)
3. DEDICATE YOUR WAY TO THE LORD (v. 5)
– Walk according to His Word (Ps 119:1-8; Josh 1:8)
– Do His will as your way of life (Genesis 24:1-28)
