When Satan Tempts Me to Despair

by Paul Tautges | January 15, 2012 3:48 pm

We sang one of my favorite modern hymns in worship this morning, Before the Throne of God Above[1]. The second verse grabbed me, as this week I found myself turned inward at times, rather than upward. When this happens it’s words like these that help shift my focus back to Christ and my standing in Him before God.

When Satan tempts me to despair, and tells me of the guilt within,

Upward I look and see Him there, Who made an end to all my sin.

Because the sinless Savior died, my sinful soul is counted free;

For God, the Just, is satisfied to look on Him and pardon me,

To look on Him and pardon me.
