Praise Our Savior, Jesus Christ

The church needs more gospel-saturated Advent hymns. Therefore, I rejoiced yesterday morning when our church was introduced to another work from Chris Anderson, “Praise Our Savior, Jesus Christ.” Consider adding it to your church’s congregational singing repertoire. Here are the lyrics from Church Works Media[1]. Take time to meditate on these glorious Christ-centered truths.

Praise our Savior, Jesus Christ; adore the Father’s only Son.
Holy God and lowly flesh in virgin’s womb have joined as one!
Equal with eternal God, Christ stooped to dwell on earth with men—
Sent by God to save our souls and slain by God to end our sin.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Our Emmanuel has come!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Praise the Father’s glorious Son!

Praise our Savior, Jesus Christ; delight in God’s climactic Word.
God through prophets whispered once, but now He shouts through Christ the Lord.
Message, Messenger combined-the Son reveals the unseen God;
Showing Him to us by birth, then bringing us to Him by blood!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! God and sinners may be one!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Praise the Father’s glorious Son!

Praise our Savior, Jesus Christ; behold God’s once-forsaken Son.
Sinner’s Friend and God’s Beloved, by both abandoned, hangs alone.
Dark the sun and dark the sin which shrouds the Christ as death draws nigh.
Conq’ring night, our Light and Life shouts “It is finished!”—wondrous cry!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Night is over; Light has come!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Praise the Father’s glorious Son!

Praise our Savior, Jesus Christ; exalt our resurrected King,
Prince of Life, He lives again; He conquered death and crushed its sting.
Jesus rose, and with Him hope; He shall not die, and nor shall we.
Once entombed, but now enthroned, His foes His footstool soon shall be.
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! We shall live, for Christ has won!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Praise the Father’s glorious Son!
