Scriptures to Read Tonight

Preparing for the celebration of the Lord’s Day—to worship Him and fellowship with other believers—is a much-neglected, but important, spiritual discipline. By using the ACTS acrostic, a common tool for prayer, let me suggest some Scriptures that will shift the focus of your heart and mind from the cares of this past week to the joyful worship of God tomorrow.
ADORATION – Scriptures that exalt the holiness and worth of God and call us to adore Him.
- Psalms 95-100
- Isaiah 6:1-8
- Hebrews 12:18-29
- John 4:20-24
CONFESSION – Scriptures that remind us of our ongoing need for the grace of God’s forgiveness and call us to repentance and confession.
- Psalms 32; 51; 106:6
- Jeremiah 14:7-9
- 1 John 1:8-2:1
- Matthew 5:23-24; 6:12-15
- James 5:16
THANKSGIVING – Scriptures that direct our mind to the works of God and call us to give Him thanks.
- 2 Samuel 22:47-51
- 1 Chronicles 16:8-12
- 1 Timothy 2:1-6
- Hebrews 13:15
- Colossians 3:15-16
SUPPLICATION – Scriptures that remind us of God’s listening ear and call us to cast our cares upon Him.

- Hebrews 4:14-16
