Pursue Peace by Dealing with Conflict Biblically

A substantial part of growing toward maturity in Christ is learning to recognize, resist, and repent of the hidden desires of our hearts. Therefore, when we experience conflict it is essential to look beneath outward circumstances and verbal exchanges to the inner workings of the heart.

Earlier this month, I taught at our monthly men’s breakfast. The aim of the teaching was not to lay out practical steps to resolving interpersonal conflicts, since that has been thoroughly addressed in previous seminars at our church. The aim of my teaching was to look into the mirror of the Word of God and ask the Holy Spirit to help us to learn how to take the log out of our own eye before we attempt to take the speck out of another person’s eye (Matt. 7:3-5). To do so, we looked at three biblical admonitions that we must follow. When thinking about conflict we should first ask ourselves, “What is our responsibility when we are in conflict with another person?”
