Recent Review of “ANXIETY: Knowing God’s Peace”
Life is scary. As soon as we wake up in the morning, we are bombarded by all the anxiety-producing demands we place on ourselves or that are imposed upon us by others. Frightening things happen that lead to anxiety, including violence in our cities and nation, political and racial division, terminal health reports, financial strain, and broken relationships in our families and churches.
The Struggle Is Real
Much has been written on the topic of anxiety with a myriad of remedies. However, scientific journals report that more people are being diagnosed with anxiety disorders. As Christians, we know the Bible tells us to be anxious for nothing (Phil. 4:6). How do we live without anxiety when we live in an anxiety-producing world?
In his new 31-day devotional, Anxiety: Knowing God’s Peace, Paul Tautges addresses the issue of anxiety for Christians and reminds us that “Scripture directly addresses the anxious heart in helpful ways” (p. 12).
Paul Tautges, senior pastor and biblical counselor, shares his personal experience and wisdom by addressing how anxiety is entwined with our bodies. He discloses how he was personally affected by anxiety, both physically and spiritually, and how he was freed by knowing God’s peace.
An Encouraging Friend
Tautges’s goal is to come alongside struggling believers as an encouraging friend. The conversational style of this daily devotional gives readers the feeling that he is sitting with us at a table, sharing his own struggle with anxiety, and pointing us to biblical truths that the Lord used in his life to bring him peace. He does this first by biblically defining the many facets of anxiety. Second, he helps readers turn to God when anxiety strikes and to depend on God’s character. Third, he gives practical help in how to fight anxiety with God’s Word.
For 31 days, Tautges invites readers to delve deeper by offering daily Bible verses and reflection questions that get to the heart of the struggle with anxiety. He also challenges readers to act on biblical truths by putting feet to their faith and practically applying God’s resources and provisions to an anxious heart. …continue reading
