God Is Not Like Santa Claus

God is not like a department store Santa Claus asking through his white beard, “Have you been good this year?” – as though we need to qualify for the Christmas gift. Yet all too often that is how we think of him. No. The God who gave his only Son to be born and die for us in order to replace the guilt and shame of our sin with peace is not a glorified Father Christmas. He is a gracious Saviour. His salvation is not given to me because I have done well. It comes when I have sinned, and know that I have displeased him, and need a Saviour. This is the message of the angels. It is for all.
